World continents puzzle map is one of the Montessori Materials that can be DIY at home. Here's how we did our version of the puzzle map:

Montessori-continents-puzzle-map

1. We downloaded the free "Continents of the World Coloring Sheet" from helpfulgarden.blogspot.com.

2. To make the hemispheres larger, we printed the coloring sheet by 125% on two light blue papers.

3. We cut the two blue hemispheres and pasted them on two letter size white bond papers.

4. We printed another pair of hemispheres on two white papers, still by 125%.

5. We cut the individual white continents along with the large islands and glued them to their place on the blue hemispheres.

6. We printed another pair of hemispheres on two white papers, still by 125% and cut each of the continents.

7. We traced North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia on orange, pink, red, yellow, green and brown papers, respectively.

8. We then cut the individual continents to make the puzzle pieces.

9. We laminated the two papers with the blue hemispheres as well as the continent puzzle pieces.

10. We cut the laminated puzzle pieces and affixed one side of velcro dots on each.

11. Lastly, we mounted the laminated hemispheres on an illustration board and sticked the other sides of the velcro dots on the continents.

You can shorten the procedure considerably if you will use this template from atamblay which I just recently found here. All you need to do is just:

1. Print pages 1 and 4 of the template based on your desired puzzle size;

2. Cut the circles and glue them onto two letter sized papers;

3. Cut the individual colored continents (page 4);

4. Laminate;

5. Cut the laminated puzzle pieces; and

6. Stick the velcro dots.
